2026 Update:
Collaboration with GSTC
In collaboration with Animondial, Animal Wise has been invited to contribute to the development of a new course on animal welfare in tourism, designed for tourism businesses and auditors and scheduled to launch soon.
This year, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) has also decided to continue its international animal welfare working group, in which we remain involved alongside other international experts from the sector. Through this group, we contribute to discussions on the development of criteria and tools to support a more responsible and sustainable approach to tourism involving animals.

Partnership with Soy Canary Green
Animal Wise has joined Soy Canary Green, an initiative led by the Association of Canary Islands Tourist Municipalities that works to transform tourism in the Canary Islands towards a more sustainable, conscious and responsible model. The project brings together 14 tourist destinations across the archipelago and promotes digitalisation, sustainability and collaboration among businesses committed to the territory.
As part of this collaboration, we contribute to promoting good practices in tourism activities involving animals, supporting the adoption of animal welfare standards and helping businesses move towards more responsible experiences. We also contribute practical resources, including our responsible tourism guides and specialised training programmes.
The initiative also includes the Canary Green App, designed for both tourists and residents. The app helps users discover local businesses committed to sustainability, access interactive maps and environmental initiatives, and find resources to enjoy the Canary Islands in a more conscious and responsible way.

Animal Wise has received a Special Mention at the 4th edition of the Best Practices in Management for Sustainable Development Competition, organized by the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) as part of the Tourism Quality Week, coordinated by the Tenerife Quality Observatory.
Our submission, “Animal Wise Guidelines and Standards Verification: Responsible Animal Tourism for Sustainable Development,” was recognized for its contribution to animal welfare and for promoting a more responsible and sustainable tourism model.

Participation in the International Sustainability Conference
Animal Wise participated in the Marine Conservation and Responsible Tourism roundtable held as part of the International Conference on ESG Sustainability, Blue Economy and Circular Economy in Tenerife, organised by Farra World as part of Nomad Fest.
During the event, we highlighted the importance of integrating animal welfare as an ESG criterion within tourism activities and discussed the challenges and opportunities involved in moving towards more responsible tourism aligned with marine conservation.
Animal Wise selected for the 2025–2026 INGENIA Programme
Animal Wise has been selected for the 7th edition of the INGENIA Programme (2025–2026), an initiative promoted by the University of La Laguna, managed by the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, and supported by the Tenerife Island Council.
The programme supports innovation and entrepreneurship projects aligned with the Canary Islands Sustainable Development Agenda and the UN 2030 Agenda.
Collaboration with Nakawe Project & Baja Adventures
We are pleased to announce our collaboration with Nakawe Project, an organization dedicated to marine conservation and the development of regenerative tourism in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Together, we have joined the #WildlifeOverLikes campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the risks that social media–driven interactions can pose to wildlife. This campaign promotes responsible and respectful wildlife observation, encouraging travelers to avoid behaviors that may disrupt animal welfare or damage their habitats.
On the Nakawe Project blog, you can learn more about the joint actions we are carrying out to promote ethical and sustainable tourism that prioritizes conservation and respect for biodiversity.

2025 Updates: Collaboration with GSTC
Animal Wise has been invited to participate in an international roundtable organized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), alongside other industry experts. We will contribute to defining new global criteria on animal welfare in tourism. This collaboration reflects the recognition of our work and our commitment to a more ethical, sustainable, and animal-friendly tourism model.
Partnership with the Tenerife Sustainability Charters
We closed the year by taking part in a networking event organized by Turismo de Tenerife, where we engaged in several collaborative dynamics, worked within the Synergies Lab, and proudly received our diploma as official Allies.
Animal Wise is now an official Ally of the Tenerife Sustainability Charters, a voluntary commitment that promotes responsible tourism in whale and dolphin watching activities and nature-based tourism in a highly sensitive marine area.
As an organization specialized in animal welfare and sustainability, we actively collaborate with Turismo de Tenerife and the affiliated companies to strengthen the technical rigor of responsible wildlife-watching principles and to contribute to the development of higher-quality, more respectful tourism experiences.

In this live talk, we discuss how to identify responsible practices, recognize signs of animal mistreatment, and what to consider before booking an activity involving wildlife.
The conversation features Ariadna from Dive in Green, who has collaborated with us in the development of the Responsible Animal Tourism Guide. A space to learn how to travel without harming what we love.

Animal Welfare in Tourism
As tourism becomes more widespread, it also seeks new attractions to keep surprising visitors. Animals are increasingly used as a draw, and their conditions are often far from ideal. Animal Wise is an organization dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in tourism activities involving animals.
We are joined from Tenerife by its founders, Ariana Hernández and Sara Torres.
